Who can benefit?

Anyone who wishes to improve their mental wellbeing- be it managing stressors at home, work or other factors- navigating through difficult life situations, have faced/facing a lot of negative experiences from childhood including neglect, leading to constant self-doubt, lack of confidence, performance anxiety, fears and phobia.
Counselling and therapy are also preventive. Sometimes even minor events from childhood or current stressors such as being bullied at school or office by peers can cause disturbance and dysfunctionality. Early intervention can also prevent the impact of stressors on your body and mind.

This was my first time attending a therapist, I was welcomed and made feel comfortable. Therapist is very experienced and skilled. I got a space to look into myself and to work on my life. It was a great experience knowing myself, able to get out of some traumatic experiences, removing some irrational belief and to learn how to cop up with life. It's a very helpful thing and I recommend it to everyone.

Personal therapy was something i needed long ago and I was never aware of it's importance until I experienced one myself. The sessions were very helpful in making me a better person. It helped me elevate my self-esteem, redefine self-concept, and know myself in depth. It helped me know that i am more than who I think I am or I was and enable me to develop a healthy way of coping with my issues. Thank you Riya for your support and encouragement.😊 Blessings.

Frequently asked questions

These are some questions that we frequently have been asked, if you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to write to us. We will do our best to clear your doubts.

It’s important to pace and not race. We recommend a 45 min session, but sometimes it is extended to an hour if needed.

Absolutely! We give the utmost care to maintain confidentiality. We even require a written waiver & signature in order to release session notes or any kind of updates!

The first session is usually an intake or assessment session and an opportunity for both parties to get to know each other and explore the issue at hand. It will also be a time for the counsellor or psychotherapist to assess personal history, help clarify what the client wants out of counselling and decide on the best course of therapy or action.

Counselling is not advice-giving unless it is crisis intervention. The way counsellors guide, probe for information and evaluate your options are completely different from the counsel/advice that would come from a well-meaning friend in your life.

Counsellor’s primary focus is on how their client has made sense of their situation. They want to know what has helped or hurt them through this dilemma so that they can help their clients make sense of it. As such, they help you weigh your options and evaluate the pros and cons of various courses of action.

They may be available on-call/chat after hours if a client is suicidal and there’s no one else they can call for help but otherwise their availability is limited for various reasons:

  1. Maintaining confidentiality even outside of the appointment is expected and therefore, is challenging if they are not in their therapeutic environment.
  2. They may be attending to other appointments or other matters that arise outside of the counselling session.
  3. Therapists may have other appointments scheduled which are taking up their time and preventing them from being available at all times while others might not want clients to contact them outside of the counselling sessions without prior appointments to provide the best therapeutic care and support unless you are feeling suicidal and there’s no one else to call for help! You can best support them in this by honouring the boundaries they set with you.

We request that you message your counsellor/therapist, in case of any pressing concerns and they will get back to you as soon as they can.

A minimum number of sessions for short term counselling is between 6-8 sessions. However, there is no definitive timeline to feeling better, it depends on the intensity and severity of the issue, your pace of healing, and to a great extent your commitment to working on getting better. Counselling sessions are not a quick fix, but they can be helpful for some people who want to learn new skills to cope with certain situations in their lives.

We believe that everyone deserves therapy for themselves and their family, regardless of their income. We do not deny our services to anyone who is committed to working on issues, but are having financial constraints. Our sliding-scale rates are based on what you can afford – you don’t have to worry about being put on a waitlist, or having to start over with a new therapist!

If you want to change the time or cancel your session, you can reschedule your session up to 4 hours before the scheduled time without any cancellation fee. After that a certain percentage of the session will be charged. Talk to your counsellor about that.
