When it comes to work and job, according to a survey conducted by Deloitte US, 77% of people experience employee burnout in their current job role. In addition, 91% say they have unmanageable stress or frustration, which negatively affects their work. 83% also say that their personal relationships were also affected.

So, let’s find out what this employee burnout is and how to reduce it if you experience it.

Job burnout is stress, frustration, and anxiety related to work and job. Job burnout can affect your physical and mental health. In a state where you feel both physically and mentally exhausted. So, how you can identify that you are experiencing burnout. What are the symptoms of job burnout?

· Lose appetite or increased appetite
· Difficulty falling asleep
· Frequently get sick
· Headaches and body pain
· Boredom
· Irritation
· Feeling zoned out
· Lack of concentration
· Mood swings
· Thinking about work all the time and having difficulty relaxing yourself
· Thinking about changing your job and even moving out
· Feeling bad about going back to work

If your answer is yes to most of these symptoms, then you might be experiencing job burnout. Ask for help from a mental health professional. These symptoms can also relate to other mental health problems like depression.

So, how can you manage your job burnout? Let’s see

  • Perform a job analysis: Take a closer look at your work and set goals for what is more important and what can wait. Eliminate the work which is not your responsibility. Sometimes it is important to say no for your good.
  • Mindfulness: Mindfulness is the key to reducing every negative energy. Mindfulness is the act of being intensively aware of your surroundings and your feelings at every moment.
  • Get enough sleep. Sleep heals you and improves your concentration.
  • Do enough physical activity. Exercise helps you with your stress and eases your body pain.
  • Relax. Perform yoga, meditation, and breathing techniques.
  • Try performing the PERMA model. PERMA model is given by positive psychologist Martin Seligman. PERMA model is used for overall well-being and happiness. It is also added meaning to your everyday life. And when you add meaning or purpose to something, it will make life better.

PERMA Model is described below; 

1. Positive emotions: Positive emotion is about feeling good and staying positive.

2. Engagement: when you fully engage yourself in something more meaningful and valuable to you. You give your 100% into and contribute to your well-being.

3. Relationships: When you have a positive and healthy relationship and can fully engage in those relationships, the result is happiness. Say no to toxic relationships.

4. Meaning: When you know the meaning of your life and your every action, it gives you the satisfaction of completing it.

5. Achievement: when you engage yourself in something and achieve it, the sense of achievement adds to your well-being.
